Walla Walla's Sears store to shut down

WALLA WALLA -- The Sears store in Walla Walla is among 79 locations nationwide that the company plans to close.

Sears previously announced that it will shut at least 120 "marginally performing" stores to raise cash. It did not give an exact number of employees affected by each closure, but a typical store employs 40 to 80 people.

The projected closings represent only about 3 percent of Sears Holdings' U.S. stores. Sears and Kmart merged in 2005.

The company now has about 3,560 stores in the U.S. That's up from 3,500 immediately after the merger.

The closure dates have yet to be determined, Sears said.
