Tree Top donates $250,000 to WSU

SELAH -- Tree Top Inc., the Selah-based, grower-owned fruit processor, has given the largest gift in its history for research and scholarships.

The cooperative announced Monday that it donated $250,000 to Washington State University to support the tree-fruit industry. The donation is a response to the university's $1 billion comprehensive fundraising campaign.

Tom Stokes, the cooperative's chief executive officer, said Tree Top's board has been discussing the donation with WSU for 18 months.

"It is our way of affirming our ongoing support of the industry and its long-term prosperity," he said.

The donation will support research orchard development, modern fruit-handling and storage equipment and facilities, as well as scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students working in areas related to the fruit industry.
