The Greater Pasco Chamber of Commerce is calling for nominations of individuals to be inducted into the Agriculture Hall of Fame at the 11th annual banquet in January.
About 50 people from the Mid-Columbia have been selected for the honor because of their contributions to agriculture and agribusiness.
The 2012 Ag Hall of Fame Dinner will be Jan. 26 at the Pasco Red Lion with Dan Newhouse, state director of agriculture, as guest speaker.
Nominations for the three categories, plus a special visionary award, must be submitted by Dec. 2 to the Pasco Chamber of Commerce office.
The award categories are:
-- The Mid Columbia Ag Hall of Fame Pioneer Award, which honors individuals who have had a significant influence on the development of agriculture in the area and displayed advocacy or unselfish acts in their communities.
-- The Agriculture Mentor Leadership Award, which recognizes individuals in education, agriculture-related youth programs and other areas where they have influence on agriculture or agribusiness through their leadership, guidance and community involvement.
-- The Agribusiness Man or Woman of the Year, which is given to individuals whose community involvement and enhanced agribusiness through leadership or technology development are exemplary.
-- The Visionary Award is presented by the Ag Hall of Fame Committee to a person who has had an extraordinary impact on agriculture in our region. The 2011 recipient was former legislator and state agriculture director Valoria Loveland.
