Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is making changes in its catalyst research program, which it calls the largest nonindustrial catalyst research and development effort in the United States.
The program has been renamed the Institute for Integrated Catalysis and has a new director, Johannes Lercher of the Technische Universitaet Muenchen.
Lercher will split his time between the Department of Energy national laboratory in Richland and Munich, Germany, which should help PNNL researchers further develop international collaborations. Munich has one of the largest catalysis efforts in Europe.
PNNL will refocus efforts on developing catalysts that can efficiently make fuels from alternate feedstocks such as biomass and carbon dioxide.
