Silly Savings crosses the river

Silly Savings is coming to Kennewick next week. The appliance store, which opened for business in February 2009 in Pasco, is moving to one of the busiest corners in the Tri-Cities.

The store will be seenby a lot more potential customers at Canal Drive and Edison Street, and it will be bigger, said owner Sergio Alvarez.

The 3,200-square-foot store will sell refurbished and new appliances, including dishwashers, dryers, washing machines and refrigerators, and also will offer repair services.

Alvarez, who has a background in sales and marketing, said the store's name is about reminding customers of the savings he offers.

In slow economic times, people are looking for a deal, he said.

"Business has been good, but not having enough inventory has been an issue," he said.

Twice he's had to shuthis Pasco store becausehe couldn't keep up withthe demand. He said hedid about $350,000 insales in his first year.

His appliances come with a 60-day warranty, and customers can buy an extended warranty for four months for $35.

He charges $25 for delivery in the metro area. Installation costs ann additional $25.

Alvarez said he's had customers from as far as Yakima and Spokane.

The Kennewick store is scheduled to open this week but the exact date is not set.
