Kennewick apartment complex wants to expand

On-the-Boulevard Apartments on Gage Boulevard in Kennewick is asking the city for a zoning change to allow it to expand.

Owner Robert McLennan of Hillsboro, Ore., has purchased two acres just north of the apartments. The land was previously used as Union Pacific Railroad right of way.

If the land is rezoned from industrial to high-density residential, he plans to add 30 one-bedroom apartments, according to documents submitted to the city.

City staff has been working with him and the property owner to the east to extend the pedestrian and bike trail that ends at the western edge of the property. That would provide a trail connecting Steptoe Street to the Queensgate area in Richland.

The zoning change will be discussed Monday at a 7 p.m. meeting of the Kennewick Planning Commission at 210 W. Sixth Ave.
