PASCO -- A national gas and convenience chain has started building a new store at 5505 Road 68 in Pasco -- its second in Washington.
Pasco has issued a building permit for a Maverik station valued at about $332,000, according to Pasco building department records.
R&O Construction of Ogden, Utah, is the general contractor on the project.
"It's scheduled to open in about the middle of April," said John Aguilar, manager of a Maverik store in Sunnyside, the only other one in Washington.
He said the Pasco store is one of several the Salt Lake City-based chain plans in Washington and Oregon.
Last month, Alana May, an administrative assistant in the company's real estate division, said the chain was planning a new store in Richland and looking for a site to build on in Kennewick.
On Monday, she declined to talk about plans for other possible Maverik stores in the Tri-Cities.
Aguilar said, among other things, the chain is known for its in-store bakeries that produce baked goods sold separately, as well as in menu items.
Bahama Mama, a Polish sausage in a bun, is a popular item that features a store-baked bun. The stores also have novel wallpaper that features outdoor scenes from the Southwest.
Maverik operates almost 210 convenience stores mainly in the intermountain region, including stores in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada, Montana and Colorado.
