High-end pianos available at Richland store

RICHLAND -- Piano lovers now have a shopping venue at a new Richland store, Ebony & Ivory Pianos.

Open since Jan. 3, the store at 721 Jadwin Ave. plans a grand opening at 11:30 a.m. today.

"There hasn't been a real dedicated piano store in Richland for a long time," said Cliff Ashley, who owns the store with his wife, Cathy.

The store will specialize in selling high-end grand and upright pianos.

For now, it will carry Hailun brand pianos, but Ashley said he plans to expand into other brands in the future.

"Our goal is to provide very high-quality pianos at a competitive price so that families, schools, churches and possibly businesses can bring music, peace and happiness into their lives," Ashley, an electrical engineer at the Department of Energy's Richland office, wrote in an e-mail.

Ashley said he also will be working cooperatively with others in the community. His supplier, Vienna International/Hailun USA, is in the same space as the store.

The store has two salespeople and local piano tuners Randy Hansen and Paul Clayton will be tuning the pianos. Randy's wife, Emily Hansen, plans to start offering piano lessons at the store beginning March 1.

Ashley said he also plans to offer the space for piano recitals.

Ashley will be retiring from his present position at the end of the month to become a full-time salesman at the store.

Store hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to3 p.m. Saturday. The phone number is 509-943-8811.
