Tyson Foods Inc. is the first major food company to become a full member of a federal program designed to make sure businesses are hiring people who are legally authorized to work in the United States.
Tyson, which has a meatpacking plant in Wallula, is a full member of the IMAGE program, which is short for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers.
To become certified, Tyson made employment eligibility documents available for ICE review, cooperated with government field audits of plant locations and allowed ICE officials to check the Social Security numbers of all company employees.
Tyson employs almost 100,000 people at locations throughout the United States.
