Tri-Cities' Built Green Program OKs plan

The Built Green Tri-Cities/Walla Walla Program, a division of the Home Builders Association of Tri-Cities, has launched third party verification for its existing program.

Addition of third party verification expands the highest achievable level of Built Green certification from 3 stars to 4 and 5 stars. Builders will be able to have the home certified by an independent third party, which will be required at the 4- and 5-star levels and remain optional on 1 through 3 stars.

“We’ve had some interest in expanding our program in this manner, but we still wanted to maintain the flexibility and market-driven aspect of the program,” said program director Reneé Dahlgren. “This allows builders and consumers who want that higher level of certification, which will come at a higher cost, to have that without making the program too onerous for builders and consumers who are just embracing the concept of green building.”

The Built Green Program was launched in June 2008 and has certified nearly 300 homes in the Tri-Cities and Walla Walla areas.
