Tri-Citian Ed Ray, senior vice president at Conover Insurance, recently received the Don C. Burnam Lifetime Achievement Award from the Independent Agents and Brokers of Washington association.
Ray grew up on a wheat farm in Washtucna and sold some pigs to come up with the money to purchase his first insurance agency in 1948. He sold the first agency in 1983 and his second in 2002, both to Conover Insurance. He graduated from Washington State University with honors in civil engineering and served in the Army before starting his 62-year career in the insurance industry.
Ray has been active in many industry associations, including: Professional Insurance Agents, Surplus Lines Association and the Insurance Commissioner's Advisory Committee. He continues to participate in local organizations including the Kiwanis, Pasco Chamber of Commerce, Columbia Basin College Foundation, Tri-Cities Development Council and United Way.
The Don C. Burnham Award was established in 1967.
