CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation Co. is moving about 400 workers to the traditional Hanford shift of 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with alternate Fridays off starting July 12.
While that could add to the morning and evening commute traffic congestion caused by Hanford workers, the Hanford contractor said the uniform shift was needed for efficient work at the nuclear reservation.
"It is important for the proper conduct of work that we all start work at the same time," employees were told in a memo. Uniform work times mean that work can be planned and conducted from the start of the day with complete crews and a single briefing, rather than smaller individual briefings that may differ somewhat, the memo said.
The change affects decommissioning and demolition workers who had been working 10-hour shifts four days a week.
