Agriculture Hall of Fame to induct new members

A state representative and two longtime farming couples will be inducted into the Agriculture Hall of Fame in January.

Rep. Steve Hailey of Mesa is a third-generation farmer and rancher and is known for his contributions to the agriculture industry, including work on legislation to ensure water rights.

Edwin and Jane Danz moved to the Columbia Basin in 1955 and entered a drawing for an area farm. Though Edwin died in 1983, Jane and their two sons still farm the family’s original land.

Leonard and Marilyn Hanses have farm heritage that traces back to Germany in the 1530s. Leonard has held many leadership positions and served on a variety of agricultural boards, including the Washington State Potato Commission, Farm Credit Services and the Pasco Chamber of Commerce.

The 2009 Agriculture Hall of Fame Gala and Induction Ceremony will take place as part of the Pasco Ag Show at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 6 at the Holiday Inn Express next to TRAC in Pasco.
