7 Steps for Moving a Pool Table
Before we begin, here are some supplies you will need:
- Drill
- Socket wrench
- Measuring tape
- Dollies
- Cutting tools
- Screwdriver tool set
- Bubble wrap
- Staple remover
Always verify your moving checklist before beginning any complicated process such as this one. The last thing you want is to forget an important part of your moving process before moving into your new home.
Step 1: Take Measurements
Before you begin disassembling your billiards table, you need to measure it and the surrounding area to ensure that it will fit in its new location. First, measure the pool table’s length, width and height, and record these measurements. Next, measure the doorway, hallways and any other areas through which the table will need to pass. Record these measurements as well. If the measurements show that the table won’t fit through certain areas, you’ll need to disassemble it further.
Step 2: Let’s Disassemble!
The next step is to disassemble the pool table. Start by removing the side pockets. Use a flathead screwdriver or socket wrench to unscrew the bolts that hold the ball pockets and rails in place. Be sure to label each piece as you remove it, so you know where it goes when it’s time to reassemble the table.
Next, remove the felt from the slate. This step requires patience and care to avoid damage to the felt. Use a staple remover to remove the staples holding the felt in place. Then, carefully roll up the felt and set it aside. Pay special attention to the legs of the pool table and the pool table felt when moving the table upside down in order to avoid any damage to it
Step 3: Remove the Side Rails and Bumpers
Now it’s time to remove the side rails and bumpers. Use a socket wrench to unscrew the bolts that hold the rails in place. Once you have removed the side rails, remove the bumpers and set them aside. Be sure to label all the pieces, so you know where they go when it’s time to reassemble the table.
Step 4: Secure the Small Pieces
After you have removed the pockets, rails and bumpers, it’s time to secure the smaller pieces, such as the shims and screws. Put these small pieces in plastic bags and label them accordingly. This will make it easier to find the right parts when you’re reassembling the table.
Step 5: Separate the Slate from the Table
The slate is the heaviest part of the pool table, and it’s essential to handle it with care. First, remove any screws that hold the pieces of slate in place. Then, use a power drill to remove the slate from the table frame. You will need at least two strong friends to help you with this step. Lift the slate off the table frame and set it aside.
Step 6: Wrap all the Parts using a Bubble Wrap
Now it’s time to protect the pool table parts from damage during transport. Wrap each piece separately in moving blankets or bubble wrap. Be sure to label each piece as you wrap it, so you know where it goes when it’s time to reassemble the table.
Step 7: Transport the Pieces
The final step is to transport the pieces to your new location. Use dollies to move the heavy pieces. Considering hiring a moving container company or at least a moving truck rental to make transporting your disassembled pool table a much easier process.
