Walla Walla homes open for parade

WALLA WALLA -- There have been a lot of new homes built in Walla Walla over the years but they've never been on parade before.

This weekend -- today and Sunday -- the doors of seven new homes will be open so the public can take a tour.

The houses are all part of the Parade of Homes, presented by the Home Builders Association of Walla Walla, which is affiliated with the Home Builders Association of Tri-Cities.

"There's lots of excitement over the Walla Walla tour," said Jeff Losey, executive director of the HBA of Tri-Cities.

This is the first ever Parade of Homes for Walla Walla, he said.

"Plus it's doable. You can drive over and tour the seven houses and still have time to go downtown Walla Walla and have a good meal and do some wine tasting," he said.

The houses will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday.

Tickets cost $5 and include directions to each house and information on the builders, contractors and decorators who worked on the homes. They are available at Hapo Community Credit Union locations in the Tri-Cities, Hapo Mortgage, 17 N. Second Ave., in Walla Walla, and the Lumbermens store in Walla Walla, 508 Wellington Ave., which is open until 4 p.m. today and Sunday.

To make everyone's tour of the homes go smoothly, Losey recommends not bringing children as they're not really interested in flooring or appliances.

Also, strollers and backpacks are not allowed inside the homes and smoking, food and beverages are banned, too.

Do wear or take along socks and be sure you can slip your shoes off easily.
