Netflix Removes Cancelled Sci-Fi Series With Star-Studded Cast

Netflix is the latest network to drop the science fiction series Moonhaven, three years after the AMC show had its renewal reversed and was cancelled after just one season by the latter.

Per its official logline, Moonhaven, which premiered in July 2022, "focuses on Bella Sway, a lunar cargo pilot and smuggler 100 years in the future who finds herself accused of a crime and marooned on Moonhaven, a utopian community set on a 500 square mile Garden of Eden built on the Moon to find solutions to the problems that will soon end civilization on Mother Earth."

"A skeptic in Paradise, Bella is sucked into a conspiracy to gain control of the artificial intelligence responsible for Moonhaven's miracles and teams with a local detective to stop the forces that want to destroy Earth's last hope before they are destroyed themselves."

Created by Peter Ocko (Black Sails, Elementary, Pushing Daisies), the short-lived sci-fi was led by Emma McDonald (The Serpent Queen, Death in Paradise) as Bella Sway, along with Dominic Monaghan (Lost, Lord of the Rings trilogy) as Detective Paul Serno.

Among the supporting cast are Amara Karan (Stan Lee's Lucky Man, The Twilight Zone), Ayelet Zurer (Daredevil, Daredevil: Born Again), Kadeem Hardison (The Cosby Show, A Different World), and Joe Mangiello (True Blood, Magic Mike).

Moonhaven received mainly positive reviews from critics and a promising viewer retention scale, leading to the series being renewed for a second season. However, budget cuts at the AMC network led to its renewal being reversed and the show ultimately being cancelled after just 6 episodes.

Moonhaven was later adopted by Netflix in December 2025, helping the show gain a new audience outside of the indie network. However, the science fiction series will soon be leaving the platform, so viewers will have until June 17 before the series will only be available on AMC+.
