Larry and JoAnn Olsen of Kennewick were married June 3, 1960, at Kensington Avenue Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo. They will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family and friends dinner.
They moved from Santa Monica, Calif., to Richland in August 1966.
Joni was a stay-at-home mom. She has taught Sunday school and was involved with Christian youth activities. She served for a short time as administrative assistant to the Fuller Seminary Continuing Education program at West Side Church. She also worked as a floral designer at Shelby's Floral and Arlene's Flowers.
After obtaining a doctorate in physics from the University of Kansas in 1965, Larry went to work at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica. He transferred to the newly constructed Douglas Laboratories in Richland in 1966, where he led the development of a nuclear battery for heart pacemakers. Larry joined WSU-Tri-Cities (then Center for Graduate Study) in 1974 and eventually became a full Professor of Materials Science. After retiring from WSU in 2002, he worked at Battelle until 2009.

They have three children: David of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Daniel of Fort Collins, Colo.; and Duane of Richland. They have five grandchildren.
They attend Kennewick Baptist Church.
