The U.S. Postal Service will not make special provisions on April 15 for people waiting until the last minute to mail their taxes in the Tri-Cities.
Taxes dropped in blue collection boxes will be postmarked the day they are picked up, as long as they are left there before the last listed collection time, postal service spokesman Ernie Swanson said.
Users are reminded to check the collection time before they leave their taxes in the box. Times are different at each collection box but the Postal Service website shows the latest time for mail pickups is 5 p.m. at the Kennewick and main Pasco post office, 4:30 p.m. in Richland and 4 p.m. in West Richland and downtown Pasco.
Some area post offices have seen earlier collection times since the postal service consolidated its mail processing operations to Spokane from Pasco in 2013.
