Kennewick School District officials are warning parents about a report of a student with chicken pox at Southridge High School.
At least one case was reported at the school, and officials sent letters home with students encouraging other students to get vaccinated.
Students who show symptoms of the highly contagious disease should stay home for at least a week, said the letter.
If there are more confirmed cases, there is a possibility students who haven’t had the disease or those who aren’t fully immunized will be sent home.
Officials said parents always have the option to keep their children at home if they feel there is a safety risk. It would be an excused absence.
Call the school at 509-222-7200 with questions or concerns.
