Retiring U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings, R-Pasco, was honored on the House floor Wednesday evening.
Hastings went to Washington, D.C., in 1995 not to seek the spotlight, but to help Central Washington residents in any way he could, said Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Spokane.
“Doc has been a constant source of wisdom, of compassion, of patience and of leadership for our chamber,” she said. “I know he will be sorely missed by all who have had the pleasure of working with him.”
Fellow Washington Reps. Denny Heck, D-Olympia, and Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Vancouver, also spoke, as did Appropriations Committee Chairman Rep. Harold Rogers, R-Kentucky, and Rep. Phil Gingrey, R-Georgia.
Hastings, the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, announced earlier this year that he would not seek an 11th term in office. He is being replaced by Dan Newhouse of Sunnyside.
