Boy asks that birthday money goes to shelter

A Pasco boy decided to forgo his ninth birthday party -- even the presents -- and give back to the Tri-City Animal Shelter.

Nicholas Craven, who lives with his mother, Michelle Craven, in Pasco, asked friends and family who would have spent money on him to donate to the shelter.

On Saturday, Nicholas took $410, five homemade blankets, treats, food and toys to the animal shelter, said his aunt, Rebecca Badoux, of Hermiston.

"He decided he's going to go back and volunteer walking dogs," Badoux said. "We pretty much had to drag him out of there."

Badoux said her nephew decided a few months ago that all he wanted for his birthday was to help the animals. He wants to be a veterinarian when he grows up.
