The MenZone, a locally-owned men’s salon, will donate its gross receipts from its Kennewick store on Memorial Day to Operation Thank You, a Tri-City charity that honors and supports local military personnel and their families.
“Over the years Memorial Day has become less a day of invocation for our fallen countrymen and more a ‘blow-out sale-a-thon’ for retailers,” said Jim Berkman, the MenZone co-owner who is also a 10th generation veteran.
Berkman said his Memorial Day offering is to honor those who serve the country and to “pay the respect they so richly deserve.”
Norma Nunamaker, Operation Thank You coordinator, said the organization appreciates Berkman’s generosity.

“Their support allows us to provide a greater level of assistance to our troops and their families,” she said. “We spend 100 percent of every dollar donated directly on our assistance programs.”
Military recruiters will also be at the Kennewick salon Monday accepting donations of cash or care package items, like CDs DVDs, toiletry items or even thank you cards, on behalf of Operation Thank You.
As part of the event, all MenZone employees who work Memorial Day will donate their time.
The MenZone opened in September 2005 in the Center Towers Plaza off Gage Boulevard in Kennewick. A second location on Road 68 opened last year.
Berkman said Memorial Day appointments are suggested, however, walk-in business is welcomed, as well.
