Skateboarder dies after more than a week in a coma

A 17-year-old skateboarder hit by a car in Kennewick died Saturday morning nearly a week in a coma.

His father told KEPR TV that Eddie Perez died Saturday morning, and several organs were donated to people in need.

Eddie had been in a coma at a Spokane hospital since the May 3 crash on West Sixth Avenue.

Police said Eddie was skateboarding along South Rainier Street when he was hit by a car. Investigators said the driver was not at fault.

Eddie's cousin, Jannette Garcia, created the GoFundMe campaign to help the family with medical and travel expenses. The goal is $100,000.
