The Squid and the Whale is a difficult character study about a couple and a family with deep emotional problems that surface during a divorce.
It is loaded with exceptional performances anchored by Jeff Daniels’ career best acting as an insufferable intellectual. He gets superb support from Laura Linney as a long-suffering wife and Jesse Eisenberg and Owen Kline who play the two kids.
This is one features several can’t-figure-out why-they-were-Oscar-ignored performances.
The rest of the world, however, did notice and you should, too, as The Battelle Film Club opens the Spring series with knock it out of the park acting.
