Mr. Movie

'I'm Not There' just slightly there

I’m Not There is a semi-biography of music legend Bob Dylan using six different actors to play him at various times in his life.

The best of the bunch is Cate Blanchett who grabbed Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.

Richard Gere, Christian Bale, and Heath Ledger also share the character.

Though I highly recommend Todd Haynes’ film to Dylan fans his project suffers nearly as much as its character -- or is it characters?

One huge setback is length -- it’s a half an hour too long, and the slow spots are nearly terminal.

Worse, it’s impossible to give you a plot synopsis.

Let’s just say it is about as coherent as a Dylan song. Mr. Movie rating: 3 stars

Rated R for mature themes, language, nudity. It plays Dec. 19 only at the Battelle Auditorium at 8 p.m.

5 stars to 4 1/2 stars: Must see on the big screen

4 stars to 3 1/2 stars: Good film, see it if it's your type of movie.

3 stars to 2 1/2 stars: Wait until it comes out on video.

2 stars to 1 star: Don't bother.

0 stars: Speaks for itself.

Animation and real-life action have worked well together since the dawn of the art form in the late 1800s.
