Shakespeare festival gets under way Aug. 2

The Shakespeare Walla Walla Summer Festival is Aug. 2-26 at the Power House Theatre in Walla Walla.

Romeo and Juliet is featured as well as The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).

Michael Shenerfelt and Brittney Morgan portray the doomed lovers Romeo and Juliet.

Show dates are Wednesdays through Sundays starting Aug. 9 with varied showtimes.

Wolfe Coleman, Gordon Carpenter and David Goldstein are the lead funnymen in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), which runs starting Aug. 2.

Tickets range from $9 to $50 for adults, and from $7 to $40 for kids. Go to www.shakspearewallawalla.org for showtimes and tickets.

The Power House Theatre is at 111 N. Sixth Ave., off Rose Street.

"A fun happening in downtown Walla Walla for this year's Shakespeare Festival are daily rehearsals by the Shakespeare Walla Walla company in the vacant Christian Supply Store on Main Street," said Denise Slattery, a spokeswoman for the company. "People are welcome to look in and see the actors in full rehearsal as they prepare for the monthlong festival."

Those rehearsals will be from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. every day. There is no spectator fee.

"Actors have been brought in from all over the country for this festival, but we have several local professional actors in the productions as well, including beloved Walla Walla High School drama teacher Brian Senter," Slattery said.
