Hopefest to raise funds for girl with disease

Hopefest is from 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 25 on the practice field at Prosser High School, 1023 Prosser Ave.

The fundraiser for 9-year-old Sofia Martinez includes performances by local bands Status Saved, Silver Dollar Circus and Striking Back. Soloist Adrienne Bousquet, a former Miss Tri-Cities, also will perform.

Sofia, the daughter of Rene Satterfield Martinez, suffers from Batten disease, a rare and incurable genetic disorder that steals eyesight, eventually causing seizures, and will rob her of muscle control and brain function.

The event coincides with Prosser High School's homecoming festivities. Admission is free but donations are welcome, which will be used to help defer rising medical cost for Sofia's care.
