Try speed dating through dancing

Single and hating it?

Well, you don't have to go hang out at bars to meet the man or woman of your dreams.

You can try dancing your way into someone's heart through speed dating dance-style.

"Dancing is an easier way to meet someone since you are just standing still but holding hands, facing each other, swaying gently side to side to slow romantic music," said Beth Trost Hayter, who sponsors the event.

The fun starts at 4 p.m. July 30 at the Red Lion Hotel in Richland. Cost to attend is $45 and includes a buffet dinner. It's for the 21 and older crowd only.

Here's how it works, Hayter explains.

Dance speed dating is based on the original Speed Dating Program where the participants spend time chatting at a table together. When the bell tolls, the women move to a different guy and spend another few minutes talking.

With dance speed dating, the participants do all the same chatting and moving from partner to partner, only they do it while dancing instead of sitting at a boring old table.

"It's sorta like dancing but with no worries about getting the steps right," Hayter said.

And just to keep the evening more interesting, Hayter invited professional dance instructor Mary Egan from Yakima to provide a tango workshop for anyone who would like to learn the sultry moves of the Latin dance.

Cost for the workshop is $30.

Preregistration is required. Register at dancebytrost.com or call Hayter at 586-7609.
