Entries sought for art, writing competition

Entries are now being accepted for the annual Celebration of Writers and Artists Spring 2011 event.

More than $5,000 in prizes will be awarded to students and their teachers.

Competition categories are essay and poetry and the competition is open to grades K-12.

The essay division is separated into groups of grades 3-6, 7-9 and 10-12. The essay must be 250 words or less on any nonfiction topic. Deadline to enter the essay portion is Feb. 15.

The poetry division groups are K to 3, 4 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12. Poems must be original, written in English and 21 lines or less. Deadline is April 12.

There is no entry fee. To submit an essay or poem go to or mail entries, 1488 N. 200 W, Logan, Utah, 84341. The entry should be labeled either "Poetry Contest" or "Essay Contest."

Make sure entries include author's name, address, city, state, zip, current grade, school name and address along with teacher's name.

Winning entries will be published in an anthology. Teachers who have five or more students published will receive a free copy of the anthology. For more information, call 435-713-4411.
