Oregon Zoo announces concerts

PORTLAND -- There's more to do at the Oregon Zoo than talk to the animals.

Every year the Portland area zoo features a summer concert series.

"We really have a sizzling music lineup this year, as well as some great entertainment for kids during our Wednesday Zoo Tunes," said Bill LaMarche, a zoo spokesman.

Opening this year's concert series will be Jewel on June 25. Tickets to the concert are $24.

Money raised from the concerts is used to support several conservation projects including protection of threatened and endangered Northwest species, LaMarche said.

The zoo opens at 9 a.m. each day and is five minutes from downtown Portland off Highway 26. It also is available by Portland's MAX light rail line. Those who take the MAX to the zoo receive a $1.50 discount on admission.

General admission is $10 for ages 12-64, $9 for ages 65 and older, $7.50 for ages 3-11 and free for ages 2 and younger. There also is a $2 parking fee.
