Arts in brief for Friday, July 10.

CBC gallery showing Montana artist's work

Montana artist Andrew Schell will be showcasing his multimedia exhibit SIGNAL at Columbia Basin College.

Schell's work will feature paintings, sculpture, video projection and a drawing performance that explores a journey of transforimation and metamorphosis. Schell focuses on privacy, or the lack thereof.

The exhibit will open at 6 p.m. on July 13 at the Esvelt Gallery. The exhibit will on display until Aug. 13 and is free.

Summer gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Former Bad Company lead singer to perform

Come be in Bad Company this weekend.

Brian Howe, former lead singer for the '80s rock group Bad Company, will be performing at the Clover Island Inn, 435 Clover Island Drive, in Kennewick this weekend.

Howe will be singing songs from his Bad Company days as well as tracks off his solo projects July 11.

Tickets are available at the Clover Island Inn for $22 in advance and $25 at the gate. The event is for those 21 and over. Gates open at 6:30 p.m. and local act Color Blind will open up at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call the Clover Island Inn at 586-0541.

Royal City's SummerFest gets under way July 10

ROYAL CITY -- The Royal City SummerFest kicks off July 10. The annual event is open to the public and is held in Lions Royal City Park. Festivities include a kiddies parade, grand parade, sporting activities, barbecue, fireworks, vendors and more.

The festival begins at 4 p.m. today with the first farmers market of the year and ends at 10 p.m. with a fireworks display. Saturday's events begin at 6:30 a.m. with a cowboy breakfast and ends at 7 p.m. with karaoke. Activities on Sunday begin at 9 a.m. at the Royal City Public Golf Course and end at 10 a.m. with a motorcycle rally.

Milania store planning grand opening July 11

Area fashionistas can break in their high heels at the Milania house of style grand opening this weekend.

Milania is having its grand opening party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 11. There will be sales throughout the store, along with treats, refreshments and drawings.

Milania is inside the new Cadwell Dental building in Richland at 475 Keene Road.

Hang out with alpacas July 12 in Kennewick

Mingle with baby alpacas and breeders July 12 at Lazy Hazy Alpaca Dayz in Kennewick.

The free event is sponsored by the Alpaca Breeders Co-op of the Greater Tri-Cities and is noon to 5 p.m. at Sandollar Alpacas, 2001 S. Washington St. Fiber arts demonstrations will be available as well as products for sale.

Music, dance event planned in Hermiston

HERMISTON -- The Hermiston Public Library will present a music and dance event called Dances of the 50s & 60s featuring DJ, discophile and illustrious Librarian Bob Jones from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. July 17 in the Lanham Room at the library, 235 E. Gladys Ave., Hermiston.

Jones is the director of the Milton-Freewater Public Library, where he has been providing his very popular "Oldies Night at the Library" with three hours of "Oldies that the Oldies Stations Have Forgotten" on the first Friday of the month.

The July 17 dance event will be open to the public and free to anyone, regardless of age and preferred time era.

Tri-City Water Follies tickets now on sale

Tickets for Tri-City Water Follies are now on sale at area Albertson's stores.

Three days of hydroplane racing starts July 24 with test and qualifying runs, leading up to the Lamb Weston Columbia Cup on July 26.

Other events include the HAPO Community Credit Union Over the River Air Show all three days, rescue demonstrations and vintage hydro performances Friday and Saturday, and the Legends Casino Dash for Cash on Friday.

Admission on Friday is free.

General admission passes for Saturday and Sunday are $25 for adults and $10 for children ages 6 to 12.

Daily general admission passes for adults are $15 on Saturday and $25 on Sunday. Daily passes for children 6 to 12 are $5 each day.

Free tickets for children 6 to 12 will be available at US Cellular locations.

Miss Tri-Cities pageant set July 18 in Kennewick

The Miss Tri-Cities 2009 and Miss Tri-Cities Outstanding Teen 2009 pageant will feature 17 contestants in the July 18 production, themed "We've Got the Music."

The event is at 7 p.m. at Art Fuller Auditorium at Kennewick High School.

The production also will feature Miss Washington 2009 and Miss Washington Outstanding Teen 2009, along with Kellye Cash, Miss America 1987, as emcee with Richard Rogers.
