Cut loose with ACT's take on 'Footloose'

Who could forget the adorable Kevin Bacon dancing his way through the movie Footloose back in 1984?

The Academy of Children's Theatre might not have the likes of Bacon for its spring musical Footloose, but the music will be as energetic as the big-screen version.

ACT's Studio 13 division will present the musical March 27-29 in the theater at Columbia Basin College. Showtime is 7 p.m. with an added performance at 7 p.m. and 3 p.m. on March 29.

In the starring roles will be Chris Kelly as Willard, Amanda Johnson as Ariel, DeeAnn Till and Mark Humann as the Rev. and Mrs. Moore with Joe Craigo taking on the Bacon role as Ren, the guy who moves to a boring little town and decides to breathe new life into the surroundings with a little song and dance.

Choreographer Anne Spilman has some impressive help with the dance moves for this show, said drama director Linda Hoffman.

Melissa McFarlan, from the New York Conservancy for the Dramatic Arts, along with professional dancer Alex Erickson, are helping out with the choreography for the show. And Paris Rodgers, a former Miss Tri-Cities, is the music director.
