Symphony concert touts young artists

The Mid-Symphony is ready to help the community get ready for spring with an inspiring litany of music guaranteed to shove those winter blahs aside.

The symphony's spring concert Celebrate Youth features the two winners from this year's young artists competition.

Violinist Matthew Hu and pianist Michael Zhang were the overall winners of January's competition.

Zhang, the son of Limin Zhang and Junquin Xing of Pasco, will play the third movement of Beethoven's Concerto No. 1 in C Major.

Hu, the son of Albert Hu and Chaomei Lo of Richland, will perform the second movement of Ernest Bloch's Baal Shem. Following intermission the symphony will perform the prelude Hansel and Gretel, followed by Hu's performance.

Showtime is at 8 p.m. in the Three Rivers Convention Center. Admission is by season ticket. Individual tickets are $25 to $35 and available at the Toyota Center box office or www.ticketmaster.com or 735-0500.
