Broadway actress to put on show at Richland High

Broadway actress and singer Emily Skinner performs an afternoon of memorable Broadway tunes Feb. 22 in the Richland High auditorium.

Showtime is 2:30 p.m. Admission is by season ticket to the Community Concerts series or individual tickets are $20 for adults or $10 for students. Tickets are available at the door.

Skinner is well known in the Broadway music scene. She had memorable roles in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas at the August Wilson Theater, was in the original production of Side Show, which was nominated for a Tony Award, and has also been featured in Jekyll & Hyde, The Full Monty and Dinner at Eight.

Skinner also has performed with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, the Pittsburgh Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony, as well as the Avery Fisher Hall in Manhattan.

Walla Walla Symphony presents Marley's Ghost

WALLA WALLA -- Marley's Ghost performs an animated concert starting at 3 p.m. Feb. 22 in Cordiner Hall on the Whitman College campus in Walla Walla.

The concert is part of the Walla Walla Symphony's Discovery series.

Marley's Ghost is a quintet of musicians who perform everything from four-part harmonies to instrumentals.

The group includes Danny Wheetman on guitar, fiddle, bass, banjo and blues harp; Jon Wilcox on mandolin, guitar and bouzouki; Ed Littlefield Jr. on guitar, dobro, pedal steel guitar and Highland bagpipes; Michael Phelan on guitar, dobro and fiddle; and, Jerry Fletcher on vocals, drums, percussion and keyboards.

Mid-Columbia theater groups plan auditions

Auditions will be next week for two Mid-Columbia theater groups. The Academy of Children's Theatre auditions for the musical, High School Musical 2 will be Feb. 23-24 at the ACT studio, 213 Wellsian Way, Richland.

Parts are available for 13 actors from age 13 to adult. Those auditioning should come with a prepared song, a CD with choice of music and be prepared to dance.

To schedule an audition, call 943-6027. Show dates are April 23-May 3.

The Valley Theater Company will hold auditions for The Importance of Being Earnest starting at 7 p.m. Feb. 23-24 at The Princess Theatre in downtown Prosser.

Roles are available for ages 16 and older. Performance dates are May 1-2, 8-9. The theater group also is seeking people who would like to help behind the scenes.

Tri-Cities Prep to hold auction on March 14

Tri-Cities Prep Catholic High School is having a live and silent auction March 14 to raise money for student scholarships. The theme is "Under the Tuscan Sun" and The Blue Goose in Prosser will cater.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 a person and must be purchased in advance.

Student choral contest entries due by March 7

High school and college students are invited to enter Opus 7 Vocal Ensemble's 2008-09 Student Choral Composition contest. The Seattle-based group gives the awards to recognize young composers.

Cash prizes will be awarded and winners will have their pieces performed during a Seattle concert. Students who are enrolled in high school or college through the summer of 2009 are eligible. The contest covers Washington, Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Wyoming.
