BENTON CITY -- The annual WinterFest starts at 10 a.m. Dec. 13 on the main street in Benton City.
Festivities include a colorfully lit parade of floats, which starts at 5 p.m. and runs through the main drag in town followed by the tree-lighting ceremony.
Other activities include games for adults and kids, pedestal jousting, a one-on-one bungee basketball tournament, arts and craft booths, an ornament contest, a gingerbread house competition, musical entertainment and food booths.
Participants in one-on-one bungee basketball are tied up to each other with a bungee cord and must move to opposite ends of the basketball court trying to make shots into the hoop.
The jousting event will have opponents trying to knock each other off a pedestal. There is a small entry fee for various game participation.
A gingerbread house competition is open to all ages with entries accepted from 8 to 10 a.m. at Ki-Be Middle School. Winners will be announced in the afternoon. There is no entry fee. Merchandise certificates will be awarded to the best culinary creations that can be a cookie cabin, cottage, castle or any other type of structure.
There will be an ugly ornament contest for everyone, and a prettiest ornament contest for kids up to age 11. The children's contest will have three divisions: 5 and younger, ages 6-8 and ages 9-11. Prizes will be awarded in each division.
All ornaments for both adults and kids can be handmade or purchased and must be dropped off at AnotherOne's Treasures, 612 Ninth St., in the downtown area, by 6 p.m. Dec. 12 to be entered into the competition. There is no entry fee.
Arts and craft booths featuring handcrafted jewelry, leatherwork, woodcraft, handmade soaps, fashioned hats and scarves, kids fleece, toys, housewares and much more will be open throughout the day.
There also will be specialty food booths offering up a plethora of scrumptious vittles for visitors to enjoy.
Most activities will take place at Kiona-Benton Middle School, 1106 Grace Ave. between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
