NW authors to be featured Sept. 20 at Newport festival

NEWPORT, Ore. -- Two Northwest authors will be featured Sept. 20 at the annual Nye Beach Writer's Festival in Newport.

Novelist and musician Willy Vlautin and poet Tim Sproul will entertain visitors with booksignings, poetry readings and musical performances at the Newport Visual Arts Center, which is at the turnaround area in the Nye Beach sector of the city.

Sproul is a Newport native who now lives in Milwaukie, Ore., where he works for an advertising agency.

Vlautin, who lives in Scappoose, Ore., is a novelist as well as a musician. His books include The Motel Life and Northline. The former title earned a top 10 spot and editor's choice award from the New York Times Book Review.

When Vlautin isn't writing books, he plays with his Portland-based urban country music band Richmond Fontaine.

Admission is $5. Students are admitted free.
