WALLA WALLA -- The 24th annual Walla Walla Sweet Onion Festival is taking over the city's historic downtown with activities for the entire family.
Admission is free. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. July 19 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 20.
Festivities include music in the beer garden at First and Main streets starting at 4 p.m. July 19. Featured entertainers include Dawg-on Cool Katz, Coyote Kings and Lloyd Jones Struggle.
There also will be dancing exhibitions, martial arts demonstrations and activities for children.

Vendors will be selling the famous Sweets plus lots of interesting variations including caramel-dipped onions, barbecued onions and other treats.
Mid-Columbia chefs also will be demonstrating how to use the sweet onions in unexpected ways to create culinary masterpieces.
Sample some of the fine wines produced in the Walla Walla Valley and savor the foods at the city's downtown area restaurants.
Arts and crafts vendors will be set up along Main Street both days with a display of onion art by Mid-Columbia artists.
