Benton Fire District 1 Commissioner Scott Carpenter apparently has retained his seat, defeating challenger Jerry Morris.
Carpenter, who was first elected in 1993, received 1,402 votes, or about 70 percent. Morris received 607 votes, or 30 percent of those counted Tuesday evening. The term for the nonpartisan position is six years.
Carpenter has described himself as the independent on the board of commissioners.
In Benton County, an estimated 1,500 ballots have yet to be counted. A total of 87,095 ballots were mailed and an estimated 27,810 received Tuesday. Results will be updated Wednesday, and certified Nov. 24.
