Cavalcade honors state's top bands

Several Mid-Columbia school bands received honors during the 28th annual Cavalcade of Bands last weekend in Kennewick.

Here are the preliminary award results, according to the event website:

AA Division: Cheney High School, first place; West Valley High School in Spokane, second place; Naches Valley High School, third place; Cheney High School, best brass and winds; Naches Valley High School, best visual; West Valley High in Spokane, best general effect; Naches Valley High, best auxiliary; and Cheney High School, best percussion.

AAA -- Small Bands Division: Central Kitsap High School, first place; Kamiakin High School, second place; University High School, third place; Central Kitsap High School, best brass and winds, best visual, best general effect and best auxiliary; Kamiakin High School, best percussion;

AAA -- Large Bands Division: Wenatchee High School, first place; Hanford High School, second place; Hermiston High School, third place; and Wenatchee High School, best brass and winds, best visual, best general effect, best auxiliary and best percussion.

AAA -- Large Bands Division: Mead High School, first place; Central Valley High School, second place; Cascade High School, third place; Central Valley High, best brass and winds; and Mead High School, best visual, best general effect, best auxiliary and best percussion.

Finals awards results: Mead High School, sweepstakes award for best of show.

AAA -- Large Bands Division: Central Valley High School, first place; Cascade High School, second place; Wenatchee High School, third place; Mt. Spokane High School, fourth place; West Valley High School in Yakima, fifth place; Central Kitsap High School, sixth place; Vallivue High School, seventh place; Cheney High School, eighth place; Hanford High School, ninth place; West Valley High School in Spokane; 10th place; Newport High School, 11th place; Central Valley High School, best brass and winds; Mead High School, best visual, best general effect, best auxiliary and best percussion; West Valley High School in Yakima, best drum major; and Central Valley High, people's choice award.
