I have seen a lot of firsts and a lot of monumental moments in my 11 years covering the Tri-City Americans.
First round NHL draft picks Shawn Belle, Carey Price and Chet Pickard
First U.S. Division banner (and a second, third and fourth)
First Western Conference banner
Never miss a local story.
First Scotty Munro Trophy
Brendan Shinnimin’s tear through February last year, then his collection of every trophy in the league that wasn’t meant for a goalie.
And tonight, Justin Feser becomes the WHL’s Iron Man with his 312th consecutive game. In the grand scheme of things, I have it pretty good.
While the Americans — who are on a six-game win streak — have made the playoffs, the Seattle Thunderbirds have not locked up a trip. They are seventh in the Western Conference, one point ahead of Everett and six points up on Prince George. Vancouver has been out of the running for weeks.
Seattle has lost four in a row and has won just 2 of its last 10 games. The T-birds dropped a 4-1 game at Kelowna on Thursday. I'm sure they would like to spoil the Americans special night, but I'm not so sure that is going to happen.
Troy Trombley is in net for the Americans. With a 6-0-0-0 record and a 2.11 GAA, it's hard to keep him out.
Head of WHL officiating Kevin Muench is in the house. Let's see how this game goes.
