The Seattle Thunderbirds are at Toyota Center for the fifth meeting this season between the teams. They are tied at 2-2 in the 9-game series.
Before we get to the game day stuff, there are a couple of league items of note.
Prince George fired coach Dean Clark today. He is the second coach to be fired this month after Everett let Mark Ferner a couple of weeks ago. When is it ever going to be the GM's responsibility to make sure his coaches have what they need to put a competitive team on the ice. Coaches are only as good as the tools they have to work with. Clark doesn't leave PG empty handed. They are on the hook for his salary for the remainder of this year and next.
Also, the Portland Winterhawks were fined and two players face suspension after their 5-2 loss to Spokane on Monday — Martin Luther King Day. King promoted peace, but there was none of that Monday as the teams combined for 121 penalty minutes and three fights — most of which came in the last 33 seconds of the game.
Portland's Joe Mahon was suspended one game for his third game misconduct this season, while Keegan Iverson's punishment for a check to the head major and a game misconduct is yet to be determined. As a team, Portland was fined $500 for a multiple fight situation. Portland now has lost three in a row — Lethbridge, Seattle and Spokane.
Tri-City's Lukas Walter served one game for his check to the head against Kamloops last week and is back in the lineup tonight.
Evan Sarthou is backing up Luke Lee-Knight tonight. Sarthou is from Black Diamond near Kent. His parents are season ticket holders of the Thunderbirds.
Americans captain Justin Feser is playing his 297th consecutive regular-season game tonight. Ranks second all-time in the WHL. Feser is on an 8-game point streak with 5 goals and 12 assists.
Americans forward Jesse Mychan has 6 goals in his last four games.
