Tonight marks the sixth meeting between Tri-City and Everett this season. They will play each other four more times after Christmas.
The Americans are 4-1 against the Silvertips this season. Everett’s one win came Nov. 9 — 3-0 at Toyota Center.
The Silvertips are coming off a 4-1 win over Vancouver, while the Americans still are stinging from a 4-1 home loss to Portland on Sunday.
The Americans desperately need a boost from captain Justin Feser, who has not scored a goal in his last eight game. He leads the team with 17 goals and 37 points. He has not scored a goal since potting two on Nov. 17 against Kelowna. In the month of December, he has just two assists to his credit in four games. In November, he had 9 goals and 11 assists in 11 games. Feser is one point from tying Stu Barnes for eighth on the Americans' all-time points list.
Tri-City goalie Eric Comrie also is in a funk, having lost his last five starts. He last won Nov. 23 against Spokane. He has a 2.77 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. Comrie gets the start tonight.
Everett, which already has lost top defender Ryan Murray to a season-ending shoulder injury, will be without defenseman Mirco Mueller departed for the World Junior Hockey Championships on Sunday morning to join the Swiss team. Mueller won’t be back until after Jan. 5.
This is the final home game for the Americans before Christmas. They have two games on the road — Saturday at Spokane and Dec. 18 at Seattle — before the players head home for a little holiday cheer.
Tonight also is a food drive night. Fans are asked to donate new and gently used children’s books and nonperishable food items at the game. All those who donate will be entered to win a free NOOK Color Tablet, courtesy of Kadlec. My cans of corn and green beans already have found their way into the donation box.
During the first intermission, about 250 Tri-City elementary students will perform in the inaugural Sing for Santa. Students from Eastgate, Canyon View, Badger Mountain, Lewis & Clark and Jefferson will sing in unison in Sections D,E and F and T,U and V.
