Here we are again. Game 2 this weekend against the Kelowna Rockets.
The Americans, behind a 41-save performance by Eric Comrie, rallied to beat the Rockets 3-2 on Friday. The Americans scored three goals in the third to pull out the win.
The first two periods Friday, were reminiscent of last Friday's 3-0 loss to Everett. Passes were errant, control was sloppy and the team game wasn't there. Today is Saturday. Hopefully those things only happen on Fridays.
Comrie is back in goal tonight. The kid has 13 win this season, giving him 32 for his career. He is 5 wins shy of tying Olie Kolzig (37).
Never miss a local story.
Goalie Luke Lee-Knight, who rejoined the team on Monday after Brenden Fiebelkorn left the team last weekend, looked happy to be back in Tri. He was high-fiving the guys after the win and had a big smile on his face. Nice to see that from a man who spent the game on the bench. Total team guy.
The Rockets, who went with Jordon Cooke on Friday, are going with him again tonight. Cooke played well for the most part, but like Comrie, could have used a little more help at times.
The have to thank Rockets radio man Regan Bartel for helping me out with a shipment of Tim Hortons coffee and a box of Honeycomb cereal with Comrie's trading card on the box (see photo). To think how many Canadians are eating breakfast with Mr. Comrie in the morning. Sorry to report, the specialty cereal boxes are not available in the states. Good to have friends (that would be Doyle, who covers the Rockets) north of the border.
Bad news out of Everett if you are a Silvertips fan or a Ryan Murray fan. The high touted defenseman suffered a separated shoulder Friday in a 5-0 loss at Victoria. Everett (7-14-0-2) has had its struggles already this season. This just pours gas on the fire.
The same goes for Vancouver, who lost left winger Marek Tvrdon for the season earlier this week. Tvrdon, the Giants' leading scorer, had a small blockage in a vein in his left shoulder. The clot was dissolved and he will fully recover, but his season is lost.
Sunday, it's the annual Bowling with the Ams day. I will be posting pictures on my blog afterward. Bue sure to take a look.
