Everett is limping into Toyota Center tonight. The Silvertips are playing their seventh game in 11 days. That’s a whole lot of hockey with very little rest.
All teams in the WHL have similar stretches of hockey. The Americans played six games in eight days on their Eastern swing. Tons of hockey. Endless hours on the bus. No one in the league has any pity for anyone else.
I might give Everett a little pity. Not only has its schedule been hectic, but the Tips have been shorthanded, as well.
Nick Patterson of the Everett Herald noted: Winger Joshua Winquist has missed eight straight games because of a combination of a groin pull and mononucleosis, while center Manraj Hayer sat out the past five because of an upper-body injury. Both will be out again tonight.
And, defenseman Landon Oslanski has been playing forward in two of Everett’s last three game.
The Tips also are on a seven-game slide after losing 4-2 to Red Deer on Wednesday. Everett has lost all four games to Tri-City this season.
The Americans, on the other hand, have won three in a row, earned honorable mention status in the CHL poll this week, and Justin Feser was named WHL Player of the Week.
Feser played game No. 300 on Friday. He is one of only eight players to reach the milestone. He joins Brent Ascroft (355), Dylan Stanley (339), Adam Hughesman (338), Ian McDonald (329), Jason Beeman (326), Tyler Schmidt (320) and Kruise Reddick (315).
Feser played his first career game Sept. 20, 2008 vs. Kelowna — a 5-2 Americans win.
The Americans are without the services of Jesse Mychan (lower body), though he skated Thursday and gave the goalies a workout. Also out are Phil Tot (upper body), Brodie Clowes (shoulder) and Clint Filbrandt (healthy scratch).
Eric Comrie is back in goal tonight after getting a break last Sunday against Vancouver. Brenden Fiebelkorn got his first start and his first win in a 9-1 Tri-City victory.
My condolences go out to season-ticket holder Stacey Struthers on the passing of his wife Dee on Thursday.
