When the fifth day of the U.S. track and field team trials kicks off at 3:30 p.m. today at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, a familiar name to Washington track and field fans will be pursuing an Olympic spot.
Recent Heritage (Vancouver) High graduate Sean Keller made the finals in fifth place in the men's javelin, throwing a personal best 253-0 in the preliminaries.
Keller won Class 4A state titles in the javelin his junior and senior years, and owns the state meet record in the event. He is 10 feet off of the No. 1 seed, Illinois State's Timothy Glover, but with better weather forecast for Eugene this afternoon, you have to think Keller has a shot.
He is scheduled to compete at 6 p.m. PDT, which is the same time live coverage will be provided on NBC Sports Network (though I would assume they will concentrate on track events). You can also follow along online at NBCOlympics.com or on the USATF web site.
