Congratulations to Kennewick High graduate Kevin Tucker, who finished second Friday in the Canadian Tour Qualifying School tournament, held at The Country Club at Soboba Springs in California.
Tucker's four-round total of 282 (6-under par) had him two strokes behind tournament winner Andrew Roque of Monterey Park, Calif.
More importantly, Tucker earns exempt status for the 2012 Canadian Tour season.
So does East Wenatchee's Nick Ellis, by the way, who finished fifth.
Never miss a local story.
The Canadian Tour starts June 7 in Victoria, British Columbia, and gradually moves east through Canada over the summer.
Khris Judy, the mother of one of Tucker's high school friends, said a reception from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Meadow Springs Country Club will be held to help raise funds for Tucker to compete on the tour.
It costs money to enter each tournament, transportation to the tournament, lodging and food.
Last year, Judy said she created an LLC to help raise funds. She said Tucker had a budget of $45,000.
"He was very frugal, and when the season was over $15,000 remained," she said.
Tucker competed on the same tour last year, but he had to compete this week to gain exempt status.
Hydros on the Columbia
It's such a nice weekend, with the weather and all.
But if you're planning on taking your boat out on the Columbia River, be advised that there will be testing near Lampson Pits today for Grand Prix, 1-liter hydroplanes and flat-bottom boats in preparation for the upcoming season.
Testing is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, and there is no charge to attend.
Boaters are asked to use caution in the water near the testing.
On May 18, two unlimited teams -- the U-11 Peters & May, and the 88 Degree Men -- will be testing in Lampson Pits.
The 88 team is not the Schumacher Racing team anymore. It is now the Gregory Racing team from Las Vegas. The Gregory family is back in H1 Unlimited racing after taking a few years off after father Kim Gregory passed away.
Kathy Powell, event director for the Tri-City Water Follies, also said it looks like the U-17 Red Dot team will be testing in the Tri-Cities on Junes 23.
The Lamb Weston Columbia Cup will be held July 27-29.
