Southridge alum Andrew Gonzales ran his best time of the season in the 3000-meter steeplechase Thursday for Washington State at the Mt. Sac Relays in California.
The redshirt sophomore finished the race in a personal best 8:55.81 for eighth place in the Open-A University/Open race. On the women’s side, Caroline Austin (Chehalis) ran a lifetime best 10 minutes, 28.91 seconds to take fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
On Friday, Othello graduate Christine Kirkwood was sixth in the javelin, while older sister Courtney Simmons took eighth.
Kirkwood topped out at 48.34 meters (158 feet, 7 inches), well off her career best throw of 173-9 and a few feet off her season best of 164-2.
Simmons’ best Friday was a 46.44 (152-4). Nike’s Kimberley Hamilton won the event at 56.0 (183-9).
