I got up early this morning, hoping to leave before the mountain pass became a mess.
I knew there was snow coming, and it arrived in the form of inches starting about 1 a.m. When I got up at 6 a.m., the fine folks at KING5 told me there were 6 inches on the pass, chains were required going East (how do those work? Do we have any in the Herald car?).
Then, the nice TV people tell they are shutting things down on the mountain pass at 7:30 for avalanche control, which could last up to 90 minutes.
I should have left last night after I got done with my story, but that was 11 p.m. and by the time I'm out of the rink and headed anywhere, it's 11:30. I'm too old for that. Maybe I should think younger.
Never miss a local story.
Well, now I am going home through Portland. An extra 200 miles to my day. Yeah! I'm going to wait until the morning commute slows a bit, then off I go.
I have six discs left on my book on tape. Hope its enough to get me most of the way home.
