Adam Hughesman seals the win with an empty-net goal at 18:14, and Justin Feser adds another for good measure at 18:51 as Americans win 4-0 and take a 3-0 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Ty Rimmer finished with 23 saves for his third playoff win and first playoff shutout.
Game 4 is Wednesday at Comcast Arena here in Everett.
Brendan Shinnimin scored a pair of goals — his first of the playoffs — as the Americans take a 2-0 lead.
Tri-City now holds a 24-13 shot advantage over the Tips.
Americans are missing a couple of forwards with Patrick Holland being ejected and Jese Mychan, who left at 5:52 of the second with what looks like a leg injury, and has not returned.
Stay tuned for the final.
We are scoreless here at Comcast Arena. Everett has a 7-5 shot advantage.
Tri-City's Patrick picks up a rare clipping penalty — a 5-minute major and a game misconduct. He upended Reid Petryk. I didn't see the play as the puck was headed the other way. I don't get the benefit of replays up here.
It was nice to drive across the pass today on a dry road. There were walls of snow 10 feet high on the side of the road, but none on the road.
I think it was one of the best drives I have had over the pass in years.
In doing a story on Everett rookie Ryan Chynoweth, I had the opportunity earlier today to talk to his dad Jeff, the GM and president of the Kootenay Ice.
You can never fit every quote in a story, and I had this one left over.
“To play against the Shinnimins, Hollands and Hughesmans is hard to do,” Chynoweth said. “I haven’t seen a trio like that in a long time.”
High praise from a man who's been around the league for 25 years.
The Silvertips have been getting small doses of the Big 3 during the series. Tri-City coach Jim Hiller moved Holland down to play with Justin Feser and Jesse Mychan, and Mason Wilgosh has been playing with Shinnimin and Hughesman. I’m sure the Big 3 will return, but it’s nice for an opponent to plan for them, then get something entirely different.
Turns out the Everett player responsible for the derogatory tweet after Saturday’s game that got his team fined $500, was Cody Fowlie, according to a story by Nick Patterson of the Everett Herald.
The Tips will be without Ryan Harrison tonight and Manraj Hayer for an undetermined amount of time. Hayer is the player who hit Drydn Dow and left him with a broken arm.
Tonight, Ty Rimmer is back in goal for the Americans. Drydn Dow is out with a broken arm, whie Lucas Nickles, Tyson Dallman, Beau McCue, Lukas Walter and Clint Filbrandt. Starting are Zach Yuen and Sam Grist on the back end, and Holland, Justin Feser and Jesse Mychan up front. Will have to check out the D pairings as the game goes along.
Tonight, Hughesman is playing his 60th career playoff game, which ranks him third behind Kruise Reddick (65) and Tyler Schmidt (61).
For the Tips, Kent Simpson is minding the net. Nick Walters is out with leg injury. Manraj Hayer is suspended, as is Ryan Harrison. Carson Samoridny is a healthy scratch. Dominik Bittner and Josh Caron are starting on the blue line, while Josh Birkholz, Reid Petryk and Jari Erricson are up front.
I spy a few Americans fans in Sections 112 and 113, and a few below the press box.
When Everett was at Toyota Center, Pat, the team video guy said Comcast Arena would be sold out for both games. Unless the fans are outside debating on whether to buy a ticket there is now way this place will sell out tonight.
Puck drops in 15.
