Gonzaga's Kayla Standish (Ellensburg) and Louisville's Shoni Schimmel (Hermiston) are in the running for the 2012 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division I All-America team.
Standish, who leads Gonzaga in points (15.8 per game), rebounds (7.7) and blocks (1.5), was named to the Region 8 team with California's Layshia Clarendon and the Stanford duo of Chiney and Nnemkadi Ogwumike.
Schimmel is among a much bigger crowd on the Region 1 team. Joining her are Temple's Shey Peddy; Notre Dame's Skylar Diggins, Natalie Novosel and Devereaux Peters; Connecticut's Bria Hartley and Tiffany Hayes; Nadirah McKenith, Shenneika Smith and Da'Shena Stevens of St. John's; Georgetown's Sugar Rodgers; and DePaul's Anna Martin. Schimmel leads Louisville in points (14.3), assists (4.5) and steals (2.4).
Standish and Schimmel have helped their teams reach the NCAA tournament. On Saturday, Gonzaga will host Rutgers in Spokane, while Louisville faces Michigan State in College Park, Md.
